Fluconix 340 is indicated in the treatment of mature and immature liver fluke (Fasciola Hepatica) in both cattle and sheep.  It is also effective against certain species of pole worm in cattle and sheep and some species of roundworm, hookworm, large stomach worm in cattle.

The main active ingredient of Fluconix is Nitroxinil, which is the same as the active ingredient used in TRODAX that is no longer available.

It’s proven action against Fasciola hepatica has been demonstrated in vitro and in vivo in laboratory animals and in cattle and sheep. The mechanism of action is due to uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation.  it is also active against triclabendalzole resistant F.hepatica.

Dosage and admin

Fluconix-340 should be given only by subcutaneous injection. Wear impermeable gloves to avoid staining and irritation of the skin.

Cattle:
1.5 ml/50 kg bodyweight.
Both infected and in-contact animals should be treated, repeat treatment as considered necessary, though not more frequently than once per month.
Not permitted for use in cows producing milk for human consumption even during the dry period.

Sheep
14-20kg – 0.5ml
21-30kg – 0.75ml
31-40kg – 1.0ml
41-55kg – 1.5ml
56-75kg – 2.0ml
>75kg – 2.5ml
In outbreaks of fascioliasis, each sheep in the flock should be injected immediately, repeat treatment as necessary throughout the period when infestation is occurring, at intervals of not less that one month.

Contraindications:

Do not exceed stated dose.

Side Effects:
Small swellings are occasionally observed at the injection site in cattle, these can be avoided by injecting the dose in two separate site and massaging well to disperse the solutions.
No systemic effects are to be expected when animals (including pregnant cows and ewes) are treated at the normal dosage.
